Cameron pledges to fight ‘enemies of enterprise’
The Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged to remove the ‘barriers to growth’ and fight the ‘enemies of enterprise’ ahead of the upcoming Budget.
Speaking at the Conservative Party spring conference, the Prime Minister said he wanted to make it easier for people to start their own business and remove the rules and regulations that stand in their way.
‘Every regulator, every official, every bureaucrat in Government has got to understand that we cannot afford to keep loading costs on to businesses, because frankly they cannot take it any more,’ he told party delegates.
‘And if I have to pull these people into my office to argue this out myself and get them off the backs of business then I will do it.’
Meanwhile, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has urged the Chancellor to use the March Budget to boost economic growth and job creation.
‘This Budget must demonstrate a relentless focus on growth to help get the UK working again. We need an all-action Budget which boosts exports, investment and jobs,’ said the CBI’s Director-General John Cridland.
The lobby group has also called on George Osborne to address the areas of taxation such as the 50% personal income tax rate, which it claims are ‘discouraging entrepreneurship and undermining UK competiveness’.
‘Mobile talent needs a good reason to do business in the UK, so the Chancellor should signal a road map for reducing the 50p tax rate,’ he added.
The Chancellor will present the 2011 Budget on 23 March at 12.30pm.
